flu season has begun
November is here and flu season has begun. Infected people are usually contagious from 1 day prior to 7 or more days after becoming ill. The best way to avoid spreading the flu is to avoid contact with those who are infected whenever possible.
Therefore, with flu season upon us, please remember for the health of the Reuther community if your child has a fever or is vomiting they should be 24 hours symptom free before returning to school. Please click to open the reference chart below.

CRITICAL INCIDENCE TEAM SUMMARY
Student Safety--arrival & Dismissal
Come help us paint a new plow for this winter season.

The busiest times of the day are Student Arrival & Dismissal. When students are racing for the bus and parents are lined up in the loop, it is important for us all to observe the following guidelines:
As the weather changes and the mornings become darker, please be extra careful to look out for our students who are walking and riding their bikes to school. While we are fortunate to have upgrades at the intersections of Auburn/Culbertson and Culbertson/Marlowe, it is still so important for those of us dropping off or picking up students to be mindful of those students who are walking!
Student safety is always our priority – please join us in keeping all of our students safe!
- Please use the parent loop in the front or rear of the building for student drop off. Please do not drop off or pick up your student in the parking lot--this is very dangerous!
- Please do not walk in between the buses. This is extremely dangerous.
- Please do not walk or cross through the bus loop by going into the road during this time.
- Please use the sidewalks between the parking lot, drop off loop and building entrances.

PARENT EVENT: SCREENAGERS: GROWING UP IN THE DIGITAL AGE
Are you curious about the potential effects of kids “scrolling through life with rapid-fire thumbs and a shorter attention span?” If so, consider joining other interested adults and students on Wednesday, November 8th at 6:30pm at Oakland Schools, 2111 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford. The Oakland Parent Engagement Network will present SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age, a documentary about one of the biggest parenting issues of our time.
Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw what was happening with her own kids and began a quest to uncover potential impact to their development. As with her other two award-winning documentaries on mental health, Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development. It also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance. We hope you’ll come join the viewing and conversation with other curious people interested in helping our students (and adults).
This event is FREE! In order to have enough seating, we ask that you register online at: http://tinyurl.com/screenagers110817

The Oakland Parent Engagement Network works to strengthen the home-to-school partnership by offering educational and professional learning events to parents in Oakland County. With the support of Oakland Schools, we are able to create meaningful and valuable opportunities to help support children and families. For more information about the parent network contact Becky Brady at beckyabrady30@gmail.com.
