Math peer tutoring a huge success!

New this school year at Reuther was the implementation of the After School Peer Math Tutoring program. In the absence of Homework Help, Algebra 1 students have volunteered their one hour per week to help their peers in math related work. Since November, we have had 23 tutoring sessions attended by 169 students of which 75% were sixth grade and 22% were seventh grade.

Here is some feedback according to parent and teacher surveys:

" I have seen a tremendous increase in ** confidence level as it pertains to his math skills and strengths. This has improved his attitude and willingness to begin/complete his daily math homework. Overall, this is a fantastic program and we look forward to utilizing it again next year!"
"** found the program very helpful. He has had nothing but good things to say about it. Thank you very much for offering it!"
"I am so thankful for this program. It is a great opportunity for 6th grade students. I have a handful that go every Thursday. It has definitely built up their confidence. I hope to see this program continue next year."
"Both ** and *** have made improvements in their math skills. Thank you so much for offering this service!!!"

Thank you to our wonderful Algebra 1 tutors and to Mrs. Carpenter for organizing this amazing program for our students!

auburn road corridor construction -- help us all stay safe!

As you can certainly see, the Auburn Road Corridor Construction project is in full swing!  During these last two weeks of school, please exercise extra caution when dropping off and picking up students.  The Oakland County Sheriffs will be in the area and will be ticketing drivers who are not following speed limits or the directions of our crossing guard at Culbertson and Auburn.

Congratulations to our Athletic Award Recipients!

Memorial Day is a very special day in Crusader Nation.  At our student assembly, the Student Council organizes games between the grade levels, we honor our athletes with three different awards and we recognize the true meaning and importance of Memorial Day with a silent exit at end of the day.

Congratulations to the student athletes recognized at the assembly!
  • Isaac Streetman received the Anthony Mileski Award.
  • Conner Henson and Ella Martin received the Bob Babiarz Award.
  • Malik Bakari, Natalie Rayce and Marion Brumer received the Mark Lane Award.

A very special thank you to the Mileski Family!

Each year, the family of Anthony Mileski returns to Reuther to present an award in his honor to an outstanding student athlete.  Anthony was a student at Reuther 20 years ago who lost a hard fought battle with cancer.  This year not only did they return to present an award and talk with our students, they also presented a check for a donation of $7000 to Reuther Middle School.   We are honored and humbled by and very grateful for your contribution to our community!

***parent drop off information***

In order to keep our kids safe, please do not drop off or pick up students in the front parking lot on Auburn Road.  Please use the student drop off/pick up loop located on the southeast corner of our school or you may also drop off/pick up students in the back entrance off Culbertson Road.

It is crowded and busy during that early morning drop off and afternoon pick up and we thank you for your patience and help in keeping all of our students, staff and visitors safe!

PLEASE HELP US KEEP OUR STUDENTS SAFE ON THEIR WAY TO & FROM SCHOOL!

Picture

Many Reuther students walk and ride their bikes to school.  Please be cautious when driving near our school and yield to them...It's the Law!   When you exit the Reuther pick up and drop off onto Culbertson and wait at the light to turn left onto Westbound Auburn Rd...you MUST YIELD to the students crossing at that crosswalk over Auburn. They have the walk sign when you get the green light, and the traffic rule is the driver MUST yield to the pedestrians.  Our school liaison officer will be patrolling to help enforce this and keep our kids safe.

Click here for Mayor Barnett's Back to School Safety Message

Please keep these rules in the forefront...As a driver, you must yield:
  • To a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.
  • To a pedestrian in the crosswalk, even if your traffic light is green.
  • To children near or in a school zone crosswalk when school is in session-- Be especially cautious as children may unexpectedly dart out into the street.
  •  To pedestrians with disabilities, including physical, hearing and visual disabilities.
  •  When turning at any intersection. This includes all turns, whether or not there are lights or traffic control devices present.
  •  When stopping at an intersection with a stop sign or a flashing red light.
  •  At an intersection with a flashing yellow light
  •  To a pedestrian in an unmarked crosswalk on the driver’s side of the roadway when no traffic control devices are present.
  • To a pedestrian who enters a crosswalk before the signal has changed.
  • To a pedestrian crossing the street from an alley, driveway, building or private road.

Student Safety--arrival & Dismissal

Picture
Picture

The busiest times of the day are Student Arrival & Dismissal.  When students are racing to and from the bus and parents are lined up in the loop, it is important for us all to observe the following guidelines:

  • Please do not walk in between the buses. This is extremely dangerous.
  • Please do not walk or cross through the bus loop by going into the road during this time.
  • Please use the sidewalks between the parking lot, drop off loop and building entrances.
  •  Please use the parent loop in the front or rear of the building for student drop off.  Please do not drop off or pick up your student in the front parking lot--this is very dangerous!

As the weather changes and the mornings become darker, please be extra careful to look out for our students who are walking and riding their bikes to school.  While we are fortunate to have upgrades at the intersections of Auburn/Culbertson and Culbertson/Marlowe, it is still so important for those of us dropping off or picking up students to be mindful of those students who are walking!

Student safety is always our priority!
Please join us in keeping all of our students safe!
